It was a dramatic contest which saw Lyon take the lead, fall 3-1 behind and then get themselves level again at 3-3 at the 90-minute mark, with Lacazette scoring their second.
Deep into stoppage time the former Arsenal striker looked to get on the end of a chipped ball into the box and Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot came flying out at him.
Bizot didn’t get the ball and a high knee clattered into Lacazette, leaving the 32-year-old laid out on the turf.
The France international, who has scored 15 Ligue 1 goals so far this season, would have normally taken the resulting spot-kick, but he instead was stretchered off the field in serious discomfort.
In his absence it was another former Arsenal man, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who scored the penalty and secured Lyon a 4-3 win.
There was concern over Lacazette after the match, but RMC Sport report on Monday that medical checks have proven there isn’t any critical injury and he’s anticipated to be concerned in opposition to PSG on the weekend.
Maitland-Niles mentioned after the dramatic win: ‘It was unhappy to see him stretchered off tonight and so I knew I needed to rating that penalty, particularly for him.’
Lacazette has been prolific since returning to Lyon from Arsenal in 2022, scoring 27 league objectives in his first season again on the membership and persevering with his spectacular type this marketing campaign.
